Conor McGregor vs Khabib: Dana White breaks silence on fight deal after announcement

McGregor will make his long-awaited return to the Octagon on October 6 at UFC 229, where he’ll .

The bout will be the Irishman’s first in the cage since he claimed the 155lbs title, which he was stripped of in April due to inactivity, in the main event of UFC 205.

When it comes to putting together a fight of this magnitude, there are often many speed bumps in the road before an agreement is reached.

But according to White, that wasn’t the case for this bout, which has the potential to shatter the UFC’s pay-per-view buy record.

“Not difficult at all,” White told Fox Sports moments after the announcement of Nurmagomedov vs McGregor when asked if he had any problems booking the contest.

“First of all, it’s what makes Conor McGregor the international superstar that he is and it’s what makes Khabib a straight killer.”

White, like the rest of the mixed martial arts world, is excited at the prospect of the two best lightweights on the planet locking horns with each other.

He added: “You have two of these guys, who are actually both straight killers, coming out of the gate and going straight after each other head-to-head.

“In their prime – incredible.”

The bad blood between McGregor and Nurmagomedov, which reached new levels at the UFC 223 media day when the , coupled with ‘The Notorious” long hiatus from the Octagon has undoubtedly made the fight the biggest in the history of mixed martial arts.

White wholeheartedly agrees with that notion and reckons the grudge match will be a huge spectacle.

“It’s a massive fight. I knew this was the fight to make,” the chief said.

“And I believe that this the biggest fight in the history of the company, other than the (Floyd) Mayweather fight.

“This thing is going to be massive.”

UFC 229 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on October 6 and is headlined by Nurmagomedov’s maiden title defence against McGregor.

At this moment in time, no other fights have been announced for the penultimate Las Vegas pay-per-view card of the year.
