Round-world unicyclist home after one-wheelie epic journey

His adventure on a 36-inch Nimbus Oracle unicycle has raised more than £300,000 for the charity School In A Bag, which provides educational equipment for poor and vulnerable children.

He rode through Europe, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan before travelling across China and through South-east Asia to Singapore.

Ed then tackled Australia and New Zealand before moving on to the US, flying from New York to Edinburgh to begin his final 500 miles home.

Since leaving his home in Curry Rivel, near Taunton, Somerset, Ed has used two sets of pedals, four sleeping mats, four saddles, five pairs of boots and five tyres.

As requested Ed triumphantly crossed the finish line in Yeovil, Somerset, to the sound of Meat Loaf’s Bat Out Of Hell before being handed a chilled bottle of cider.

He told the welcoming crowd: “You can’t say you’re going to ride a unicycle around the world and then not do it.

“I mean my friends would tease me about that for the rest of my life. “I just needed to complete it for my own sake but also because I enjoyed it. There were some weeks it sucked –- saddle sore was a big issue –- but it beats coming back here and getting a job doesn’t it?”

Zoe Fox, of School In A Bag, said: “It’s just fantastic what he’s done, how he’s done it and what he’s achieved both for himself and the charity.”

Ed’s parents Nick and Roxanne praised his efforts. Roxanne said: “He left school in search of a challenge and adventure.

“Anyone who has followed his journey will know that he has created just that.”
