Xbox Games with Gold August 2018 UPDATE: New free games include For Honor

Today has seen Microsoft reveal their lineup for the Games with Gold service in August 2018.

The free games will include the usual staggered release dates, with a total of four games available to download on Xbox One.

These are split between titles launched on the next-gen console, and two others available to play via Backwards Compatibility.

Showing a major uptick over past months, Games with Gold in August will include both Forza Horizon 2 Standard – 10th Anniversary Edition and Ubisoft’s For Honor Standard Edition.

Forza Horizon was released in 2014 and is an Xbox One exclusive, which achieved a high Metacritic score from both reviewers and users.

“Drive over 200 exotic cars and explore the beautiful vistas of southern France and northern Italy like never before, in this 10th anniversary edition of Forza Horizon 2.

“Show off your driving skills with friends online in challenging races and events, day or night, in dynamic weather conditions. A world of beauty and freedom awaits in this ultimate celebration of speed and style.”

This will be available to download on Xbox One for free on August 1, and will be replaced on August 16 by Ubisoft’s For Honor.

For Honor is an interesting choice for Games with Gold, as it relies on having a decent amount of players online.

For Honor was initially released in 2017 and includes a range of modes dedicated to fighting in teams and on solo encounters.

“Be prepared to enter the chaos of war in For Honor. Mix speed, strategy, and team-play across several multiplayer modes as you control your favourite warriors, be they bold Knights, brutal Vikings, or deadly Samurai.

“Master the innovative Art of Battle combat system and guide your armies to ultimate victory.”

It should also be noted that For Honor is regularly updated with new content, much in the same way that Rainbow Six Siege is.

For those looking for more old-school action, players can add Dead Space 3 on August 1 and Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two on August 16.

For those who don’t know, Games with Gold offers free Xbox games to qualifying Xbox Live Gold members.

The program provides Gold members with free games every month, worth up to $700 per year, according to Microsoft.

Games with Gold is available to all Xbox Live Gold members, which can be redeemed from the Gold widget on the Xbox One home screen.

Titles can also be found if you download the Xbox One SmartGlass app, and go to the Microsoft Store and then page right.

When you select a game, it’ll be stored in your account and ready for download when you sign in to your console.

It should also be noted that new Games with Gold titles become available on the first and the sixteenth day of every month.

The new Games with Gold August 2018 lineup could be announced in the coming days, or, Microsoft may wait until next week before revealing what they have planned.

Fans can also still download games from the current crop of Games with Gold titles, as these will not be replaced until August.
