WATCH: President Donald Trump SHUNNED by Jean-Claude Juncker who REFUSES to hold his hand

After crunch talks with the President of the European Commission, the US President said both sides had agreed to “work together towards zero tariffs”.

The EU and the US have been embroiled in a tit-for-tat trade row in the last few months after Mr Trump imposed tariffs on steel and aluminium imports.

However, Jean-Claude Juncker appeared to refuse to hold the US President’s hand after speaking with the media.

Turning and walking away from the lectern the US President reached his hand out to the President of the European Commission.

kept his right hand to his side and did not grasp hands with Mr Trump.

As the pair began walking up a staircase behind them, the US President then placed his hand on Mr Juncker’s back.

The US President often reaches out to make close contact with world leaders and was filmed holding hands with Prime Minister Theresa May during his visit to the UK last week.

After the meeting with Mr Juncker, Mr Trump said the two sides would now be “more reciprocal”.

Mr Juncker also claimed victory, saying a pledge by the US to hold off on tariffs against cars built in the was a “major concession”.

After the meeting, the US President tweeted: “Great to be back on track with the European Union.

“This was a big day for free and fair trade!”

He later added: “European Union representatives told me that they would start buying soybeans from our great farmers immediately. Also, they will be buying vast amounts of LNG!”

Speaking to the media, Mr Juncker said: “We are close partners, allies, not enemies. We have to work together.

“We are representing half of the world’s trade. $1trillion is the trade figure between us, so I think we need to talk each to another and not at another and that is what we do today.”

After their meeting, Mr Juncker thanked the US President and claimed it was a “good, constructive meeting”.

He added: “I had one intention today, to make a deal, and we made a deal. We have a number of areas on which to work together.”
