Chelsea transfer news: Why Gonzalo Higuain will want Blues move – Pietro Anastasi

That’s the verdict of Juventus hero Pietro Anastasi, as Maurizio Sarri eyes a reunion with the striker.

Chelsea are in for a busy couple of weeks as they look to get a number of deals over the line before deadline day.

And recruiting a replacement for misfiring forward Alvaro Morata is high on new manager Sarri’s list of priorities.

Juventus hitman Higuain has been identified as the man Chelsea want, with the Argentine having thrived under Sarri during his time at Napoli.

AC Milan are also in the mix as they seek to get back to the heights of their ’90s heyday under new ownership.

Anastasi, who scored 78 Serie A goals for Juventus, reckons as Stamford Bridge switch will be in Higuain’s sights though.

“I think he prefers Chelsea,” Anastasi told Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web.

“Going to Milan would land [him] in a team to be re-established while in England [he] would have the opportunity to play in the Champions League [in future] and in more competitive training.”

Chelsea have also been linked with a raid on Milan for goalkeeper Pepe Reina as Thibaut Courtois edges towards the exit door.

Italian agent Enrico Fedele provided an update on Chelsea’s pursuit of the San Siro new boy earlier this week.

“Certainly a player will be sacrificed for [Leonardo] and for Reina, Sarri he has made a €6m [£5.4m] bid,” said Fedele, when asked about Leonardo rejoining Milan as sporting director.

“If [Gianluigi] Donnarumma remains, Reina goes and also [Leonardo] Bonucci. In attack I think Morata will arrive while Higuain I think I can go to Chelsea.”

Chelsea continue their pre-season against Serie A opposition in the form of Inter Milan on Saturday.
