Bernie Sanders accuses Trump of planning to start a WAR with Iran to get RE-ELECTED

Senator Sanders quoted a tweet from the President which dates back in 2011, in which Trump claimed former President Barack Obama would start a war with Iran to extend his presidency.

Mr Sanders disagreed with the American firebrand and wrote: “No, Obama improved relations with Iran.

“Are YOU, President Trump, planning to start a war to get re-elected?”

Bernie Sanders’s remarks come less than 24 hours after the US President threatened Iran with a late-night, all capital-letter tweet.

The post was a response to the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s interview, during which he warned the US about continuing a hostile policy against his theocratic Government, declaring that a “war with Iran is the mother of all wars”.

Trump, who spent the weekend at his golf course in New Jersey, returned to the White House on Sunday and sent at 11.24pm ET a tweet addressed directly at President Rouhani.

The tweet read: “Never, ever, ever threaten the United States again or you will suffer consequences the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered before.

“We are no longer a country that will stand for your demented words of violence and death.

“Be cautious.”

White House staff members commented on the tweet on Monday morning and declared they fully supported it.

Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told Fox News the President was not inciting a war and said: “the only person that is inciting anything is Iran.”

She continued: “The President certainly uses tough language but he’s also not afraid to take tough steps if necessary.”

On May 9, the US pulled out of the Iran nuclear agreement, which aimed to reduce Iran’s nuclear capability, after it criticised the terms of the deal for being too lenient.

Following the withdrawal, there has been an escalation of rhetoric between Tehran and Washington officials, due to concerns Iran may once again start to develop its nuclear arsenal.

On Sunday Mike Pompeo claimed Iranian ruling leaders are using their positions to “line their pockets” and that the country’s administration resembles “the mafia”.
