Putin news: Has Putin ever been to the White House? When is Putin visiting Trump in USA?

It was a controversial meeting between Presidents Trump and Putin on July 16, with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov calling the outcome “better than super.”

However, US headlines accused Trump of ‘treason’ and having made ‘tragic mistakes’ during the meeting.

Russia and the US have a long history of conflict, dating from the Cold War when geopolitical tensions arose following World War II.

Restrictions are still imposed upon Russia by the USA, with talks between the two countries hoping to come to a solution.

President Trump managed to insight a furore following his remarks at a press conference in Finland, in which he brushed off the claims Russia had meddled in the 2016 US election.

This cast doubt on his own intelligence agencies and caused chaos across the political sphere.

The US president then retracted his comments, saying he misspoke at the press conference, and that he had full faith in US intelligence.

Has Putin ever been to the White House?

Vladimir Putin has met with four US presidents in total, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump.

In November 2001, Putin flew to the USA on a state visit and met with George Bush in the White House.

This was during Putin’s first term as president and then US President Bush said of the meeting: “This is a new day in the long history of Russian-American relations, a day of progress and a day of hope”.

When is Putin visiting Trump in USA?

Putin had signalled after the summit with Trump that he and the US President reached several agreements.

Following their meeting in Finland, Trump tweeted of looking forward to a second meeting with Russia’s president: “The Summit with Russia was a great success, except with the real enemy of the people, the Fake News Media.

However, neither Trump nor the White House has confirmed any agreements between the two countries.

US Press Secretary Sarah Sanders tweeted yesterday announcing that President Trump had asked for Putin to be invited to Washington this autumn.

She said: ”President Trump asked (national security adviser John Bolton) to invite President Putin to Washington in the fall and those discussions are already underway”.

“I look forward to our second meeting so that we can start implementing some of the many things discussed, including stopping terrorism, security for Israel nuclear proliferation, cyber attacks, trade, Ukraine, Middle East peace, North Korea and more.

“There are many answers, some easy and some hard, to these problems…but they can ALL be solved!”

This meeting came as somewhat of a shock to the Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats when he was told during a press conference on Thursday.

“Say that again?” Mr Coats asked when told about Trump and Putin’s second meeting. “That’s gonna be special.”
