Equalizer 2 release date: When does the Equalizer 2 starring Denzel Washington come out?

Robert McCall, the retired CIA black ops operative living quietly in Boston, Massachusetts, is back as the vigilante saviour of the oppressed.

The first Equalizer movie brought audiences the evolution of Robert McCall from mild-mannered shop employee to angel of vengeance.

But when is the Equalizer 2 starring Denzel Washington in cinemas?

The Equalizer sequel lands in UK cinemas on Friday, August 17, 2018, but has already had its USA release today, July 20.

The Equalizer 2 plot is exactly as straightforward and uncomplicated as you would expect from this kind of action movie.

Now long established after the events of the first Equalizer movie, people know if they have a problem and have nowhere else to turn, they can call on the enigmatic Robert McCall to deliver justice.

The sequel, however, brings McCall’s past back to haunt him when thugs kill his best friend and former colleague Susan Plummer (Melissa Leo).

Now out for revenge, McCall must take on a crew of highly trained assassins who’ll stop at nothing to destroy him.

Alongside Melissa Leo, Bill Pullman also reprised his role as Brian Plummer, Susan’s husband.

Pedro Pascal joined the cast of the sequel as Dave York, McCall’s former partner in the CIA.

Another new face to the Equalizer franchise is Ashton Sanders, best known for his portrayal of ‘teen Chiron’ in the Oscar-winning movie Moonlight.

Sanders plays Miles Whittaker, a young man who lives near McCall, though his role beyond that of neighbour remains elusive.

Seven months before the premiere of the first Equalizer movie Sony Pictures and Escape Artists announced their plans for a sequel.

The sequel was contingent on both Denzel Washington wanting to reprise the role, and whether or not audiences wanted another Equalizer movie.

Going head to head with Mamma Mia 2, the Equalizer sequel was surpassed by the Abba movie at the American box office.

How it fares in the UK, where it has plenty of breathing room from other sequels like Mamma Mia 2 and the Ant-Man sequel, remains to be seen.

The Equalizer 2 is in UK cinemas on Friday, August 17, 2018.
