The two filmmakers are best known for their improvised comedy in movies like 21 Jump Street and The LEGO movie.
However it seems their vision was a bit too much for Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy who fired the pair with just a few weeks of filming left to go.
In the end Ron Howard replaced them and reshot most of Solo, seeing the budget swell to around $275 million.
Yet this was something that didn’t help when the film only managed to gross a measly $385 million worldwide, while the other three recent Star Wars films were in the billions.

Well now it turns out some of their “screwball humour” in at least one deleted scene will arrive with the home release.
And the first trailer for the Blu-ray, DVD and digital format featured a shot from one where Han throws a snowball at Chewy.
In fact back in May Alden Ehrenreich spoke about this specific scene.
He told Digital Spy: “There’s this world, Vandor, where we’re in the snow
“We’d go to the Dolomites in Italy and get in a helicopter and fly to the top of this mountain.
“We’d be hanging out in the mountains all day, and Woody would get restless and start having a snowball fight with everybody.
“They said, ‘Why don’t we make this a scene in the film?’ and we shot it with me and Chewie and Woody having this snowball fight – that was pretty awesome.”
Speaking at the GLAS Animation Festival in California, the duo confirmed that they won’t receive any credit for their directing – but they have accepted an Executive Producer acknowledgement.
“We were really proud of the many contributions we made to that film,” Miller said, according to The Wrap.
“In light of the creative differences, we elected to take an executive producer credit.”
Solo: A Star Wars Story is released on Blu-ray and DVD on September 24.
