Mamma Mia 2: Will there be a THIRD movie? Christine Baranski speaks out

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again has generated positive reviews from critics and is expected to energise the box office after a World Cup slump.

It arrives a decade after the first film, but with ABBA’s hits catalogue still so extensive, will there be a threequel?

“They’d better not wait ten years,” Christine Baranski – reprising her role as Tanya – told The TODAY Show.

“Not ten years, no,” Sam actor Pierce Brosnan chimed in. “Maybe next year we should do it.”

Andy Garcia, who joins the cast as Fernando, quipped: “We made the discovery during this press tour that Fernando is possibly the grandfather!

“And that’s why he’s there with Sophie.”

Baranski explained her elation at being asked to film the sequel, after the cast seemed to strike up such a strong bond first time around.

“We had almost begun to give up hope because ten years went by,” she said.

“We were hoping to do another one just because we had so much damn fun doing the first one, but after the phone wasn’t ringing – year eight, year nine…

“And then when the phone rang, ‘well is everybody else doing it?’ ‘Yeah!’”

The ABBA songs explored this time include Knowing Me, Knowing You; Fernando; Angel Eyes; The Name of the Game and Waterloo.

There are also repeat outings for Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia, Super Trouper and I Have A Dream.

Amanda Seyfried, Meryl Streep, Cher, Julie Walters, Stellan Skarsgard, Colin Firth and Dominic Cooper are also in the ensemble.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again is out on Friday.
