Samsung has announced its Unpacked 2018 event on August 9 where it is expected to launch the new Galaxy Note 9 phablet smartphone.
Now a new report suggests that the on sale date of the handset will follow soon after.
According to reports from Korea, the Galaxy Note 9 will get a release date where it will go on sale from August 24.
This is moved up by more than 20 days over the Note 9 predecessor, the Note 8, allegedly owing to poorer sales of the Galaxy S9 than expected.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 launched on August 23 but then went on sale three weeks later on September 15.
This relatively early release of the Note 9 is expected as a pre-emptive move to control the high-end handset market ahead of Apple’s expected new iPhones in September.
Reservations for the Note 9 should be made available with a pre-order system scheduled to go live 10 days before the August 24 release date.
If the Note 9 is like the Note 8 then it should be released in multiple countries worldwide at the same time.
Rumours suggest the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will come with a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display featuring a 2960 x 1440 resolution and 18.5:9 ratio.
Running the handset should be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 CPU, in some regions at least.
The handset could be backed by a hefty 8GB of RAM in the top-end version.
There should be a 12MP dual rear camera system and an 8MP front-facing selfie snapper.
These cameras are expected to get enhanced features with new software.
One such function should be an enhanced background blur to give that bokeh style DSLR-like finish to photos.
The Note 9 is also expected to come with a 4,000mAh battery and a new Bixby 2.0 voice assistant.
The headline feature should be a brand new S Pen stylus which is expected to come with more sensors and Bluetooth.
This should mean greater sensitivity and depth on controls when writing and drawing.
That Bluetooth combined with the S Pen button could make it be used as a controller for things like the camera shutter or a TV.
If rumours are correct and the S Pen has complex sensors it could even double as a controller while the phone is in a VR headset.
