Digestive pain? These 5p supplements could prevent constipation and bloating

Constipation is a common condition that affects most people at some point in their lives, according to the NHS.

You could be constipated if you haven’t passed a stool at least three times over the past week, or if your stool is dry, hard or lumpy.

Difficulty pushing out a stool, or if its larger than normal, could also be a sign of constipation.

But, adding the probiotic supplement Lactobacillus acidophilus to your diet could prevent bloating, it’s been claimed.

Probiotics are ‘good’ bacteria that live in your gut. They help to maintain a healthy immune system.

They also help the body to absorb nutrients, and fight off harmful bacteria.

If you don’t have enough probiotics, you could suffer from digestive disorders, autoimmune diseases and flu.

You can boost your Lactobacillus acidophilus intake by taking supplements, or by eating more fermented foods and yogurt.

“Lactobacillus acidophilus relieves gas, bloating and improves lactose intolerance,” said nutritionist Dr Josh Axe.

“It’s shown to help with a 61 per cent reduction in E. coli, lower cholesterol levels and creation of vitamin K.”

Lactobacillus acidophilus helps to protect the gut from ‘bad’ bacteria, studies have claimed.

Taking the supplement could also lower your risk of heart disease by up to 10 per cent, scientists have claimed.

You could lower your risk of bloating by cutting back on certain foods, the NHS said.

Try cutting back on broccoli and cabbage to prevent the condition.

You’re more at risk of painful bloating if you regularly chew gum, or drink fizzy drinks.

Talking with your mouth full of food may also lead to the condition.
