Masters 2018: Tiger Woods told of major concern heading into Augusta National

Tiger Mania is in full swing right now following Woods’ recent performances.

The past few years when he has returned from back injury haven’t proved successful with concerns that he may never be the same player again.

But he has been in contention going into the final round at both the Valspar Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational.

And with the 2018 Masters next on Woods’ calendar, many are backing him to win a 15th major.

However, McGinley has noticed one main aspect of Woods’ game that suggests he may not be quite ready to challenge in the big tournaments.

When does the 2018 Masters start?

“It’s quite incredible his comeback, it really is,” McGinley said on the Sky Sports Golf Podcast.

“I still think I’d like to see a little more of him before I could talk about him being a potential major winner because he hasn’t jumped the mental hurdle yet.

“He’s jumped the mental hurdle in terms of coming back and hitting the ground running, which is a big one to jump, but there’s a couple of things.

“Last week he gets a sniff of winning at hits it OB on 16. It’s a dog-leg right so you shouldn’t even be going down the left hand side.

“That was surprising and the other thing I found absolutely surprising was in Valspar when Paul Casey won.

“He came to the last hole in the last group needing a birdie to get into a playoff and his strategy of hitting a two-iron off the tee and leaving him 195 into that pin where he hit it on the front of the green and left his putt short. He seems happy to make second and that didn’t quite add up to me.

“We haven’t seen that from Tiger in the past so those hurdles I’d like to see kind of jumped before I go down the line of he can win a major.”
