Nintendo Direct: Next big Switch games reveal is TODAY as part of the Nindie Showcase

The Japanese games giant has gotten into the habit of scheduling their latest announcement altogether.

Following on from the Nintendo Direct that confirmed the release of a new Super Smash Bros game in 2018, a new event is set arrive today.

March 20 will see a new Nindie Direct broadcast, which will focus on a lot of new third-party content coming to the Nintendo Switch games list.

And unlike with many Nintendo Switch Directs, there haven’t been a ton of leaks beforehand.

It means we don’t know exactly what’s going to be revealed later today.

The new Nintendo Direct event kicks off between 4-5pm GMT, or 9am PDT, 12pm EST.

The last Nindie event held last year was hailed as a success by fans, who are hoping some release date will be confirmed today.

As the label suggests, it will focus on titles coming from smaller developers, although that doesn’t mean there won’t be any exciting reveals.

The last Nindie stream included popular projects like Travis Strikes Again, Shovel Knight: King of Cards and Super Meat Boy Forever.

There’s been a lot of talk of some of these finally getting a launch window announced, with a lot of fingers crossed on Hollow Knight getting new details announced for 2018.

It should also be noted that this latest Nindie Direct is being held the same week as GDC.

This could mean that some of the titles announced or revisited during this event could follow up more news during the conference.

Last August saw around 20 new Nintendo Switch games announced, meaning hopes are high for something similar in 2018.

The Nindies Spring Showcase can be watched via the YouTube embed found in this article.

Unlike with the larger Nintendo Direct event held earlier this month, there’s been no stipulation on whether all of these game will be launching in 2018.

That opens the door to some projects that won’t be arriving until 2019, so plenty of scope for some top projects to be announced.

Indie games are know to sell very well on the Nintendo Switch and is one of the main reasons why there are so many available on it.

Some titles have even confirmed that they’ve sold more copies on the hybrid device, than on all other platforms combined.

Brjann Sigurgeirsson of Steamworld developer Image & Form revealed something like that to PC Gamer a while ago, confirming that there title had done very well on Switch.

“On Switch we’ve sold many times what we’ve sold on Steam—somewhere between five and 10 times,” he explains.

Super Meat Boy also confirmed strong sales on the Nintendo Switch, with the game’s official revealing some surprising stats.

“Super Meat Boy on Switch first day sales came shockingly close to its debut on Xbox 360 back in 2010. That’s. Nuts,” they tweeted.
