Chelsea news: Why N’Golo Kante is just like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi – Pat Nevin

Kante has starred in the Premier League ever since his move to Leicester in 2015.

The Frenchman has won the Premier League title twice, once in his debut season with Leicester and then the following campaign following a move to Stamford Bridge.

He has received praise from around the globe and is surely one of the first names on Antonio Conte’s team sheet.

And Nevin, who starred for Chelsea for five years in the Eighties, believes the 26-year-old is as good as anyone on the planet.

“I am determined never to take Kante for granted,” Nevin told Chelsea’s official website.

“There are very few players in football who are outstanding almost every single game of every single season, but I suspect he is near the very top of that very select group.

“I am pretty much open-mouthed at various points in every game in which I watch him, and I still have no idea how he wins so many tackles he is second favourite for, or how he reads the game so incredibly well.

“I am beginning to think that like the elevators in the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, he might have an ability to see slightly into the future and know what is about to happen a few seconds before everyone else and as such, acts accordingly in nipping in to win the ball.

“I know it is early to consider it, but I will be amazed if he isn’t in everybody’s Premier League team of the year, and if the PFA Players’ top team doesn’t include him I will lose faith in the entire game.”

Kante has been in the PFA Team of the Year for the previous two seasons and was also named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year, the FWA Footballer of the Year and the Premier League Player of the Season last campaign.

This will be the first year Kante has not lifted the Premier League, with Manchester City runaway leaders.

The Blues are still in the FA Cup though having beaten Kante’s former club Leicester in the quarter-finals.

Chelsea will play Southampton for a place in May’s final.
