Star Wars Last Jedi wins BIG at Empire Awards – Best Film, Daisy Ridley Best Actress, more

The annual prizegiving bash takes pride in acknowledging crowd-pleasing blockbusters rather than the usual awards season fare, with prizes voted for by movie fans.

Star Wars’ eighth instalment picked up the most prizes, including Best Film.

Daisy Ridley was also a big winner, scooping Best Actress. Rian Johnson, meanwhile, won Best Director.

Visual Effects and Costume trophies also went to the sci-fi smash, while Mark Hamill was honoured with the Icon Award.

Get Out also won twice: Best Horror and Best Screenplay.

Wonder Woman trumped in the Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy category, while Logan won two prizes: Hugh Jackman took Best Actor and Dafne Keen took Best Female Newcomer.

In the TV fields, Nicole Kidman won Best Actress for Big Little Lies, Jason Isaacs won Best Actor for Star Trek: Discovery and The Crown won Best TV Series.

Beauty and the Beast won Best Make-up and Hairstyling, Baby Driver took Production Design and Soundtrack, Coco scooped Animated Film, Kingsman The Golden Circle won Best Thriller, I Am Not Your Negro was named Best Documentary and The Death of Stalin took Best Comedy.
