Fortnite Mobile tops iOS App Store, even with limited invite and codes launch

Even with limited invites and a friends codes system, Epic Games have seen a big launch this week.

The Fortnite Mobile App managed to top the iOS App Store chart tonight, proving that there’s already an immense interest in it.

It also points to Epic Games providing enough downloads and invites to make a real impact with fans.

Sitting at the top of the free apps chart for games on the App Store even for a few hours is not an easy feat, with fierce competition already in place.

And it appears that Fortnite could be staying top of the charts for a while yet.

That’s because Epic Games will be inviting more fans to download the game over the coming days.

Players will get sent an email with the official download link included, which will give the option of grabbing the App.

For those who missed out, more opportunities will be coming soon, while friends who did manage to get in should be able to provide a code to those they want to invite.

The first gameplay reports have also been flooding in with, players confirming that Fortnite Mobile does well to keep up with the other versions.

However, it should also be noted that Fortnite on mobile does suffer from a downgrade in visuals from other versions, and also faces a challenge when it comes to buttons.

The touchscreen requires a lot of inputs to make gameplay on mobile possible.

Another big change from the PS4, Xbox One and PC is an indicator that provides you with the direction you’re being attacked from.

This also helps you find nearby chests and has been put in place to help for when people are playing with no sound.

Epic Games are asking for feedback from fans, with Fortnite Mobile still very much in the beta stage.

As mentioned by the development team, new features are being worked on for iOS and Android players.

This will include bluetooth controller support, as well as voice chat options.

There’s no current release date for either, and it seems unlikely that they will launch before Fortnite comes to Android.

Epic Games have warned that it might take months for the game to appear on Android phones and tablets.

For those players on iOS who want to try and boost their chance of getting an invite to the pilot program, a recent FAQ outlined what the development team are looking for.

According to the post, invitations will be sent out based on sign up order, device models and even the proximity to the data centre.

“Factors that contribute to the order in which players receive invites include sign-up order, proximity to a data centre, and device model,” the post reads.

“If your friend got invited by Epic, check with them to see if they have a friend code to share with you.”

In order to maintain a “healthy player population”, Epic will scale its services to handle more players.

“We’re sending out invites as our services scale up to handle more players with the goal of maintaining a healthy player population,” Epic continues.

“Not everyone will get in at the same time. After you sign up at www.fortnite.com/mobile, you will be notified via email once you get in.”
