WWDC 2018: Apple set to preview new iOS, macOS updates at annual developer conference

Apple will hold its annual developer conference June 4th – 8th at the McEnery Convention Centre.

The World Wide Developer Conference, known as WWDC, allows Apple to share updates to its hardware, software and services with the developer community.

Apple typically showcases the next major version of its operating systems, including iOS, macOS, tvOS and watchOS.

In the past, Apple has also used the annual event to unveil new hardware.

Some sources believe Apple will take the wraps off a new MacBook with Retina Display during the developer conference.

This new MacBook will have an entry-level price tag and will replace the ageing MacBook Air in the company’s notebook line-up.

Apple has kept quiet about what developers can expect from WWDC this year.

Announcing the dates on its website, the Cupertino company said: “Every year, WWDC provides an opportunity for millions of developers to learn more about how to create new experiences across Apple’s platforms for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, Mac and HomePod.

“A broad range of robust developer APIs, including SiriKit, HomeKit, HealthKit, GymKit, MusicKit, ResearchKit, and CoreML, give developers new ways to help users take command of everything from their health and homes, to how they get around, shop and learn.

“Last year at WWDC Apple debuted ARKit, and since then, developers with apps in every category on the App Store have embraced inventive ways to engage customers with virtual experiences overlaid in the real world.”
