Nintendo Direct March 2018: Big Switch games announcements coming soon?

Nintendo Switch gamers have been informed that a possible new live stream event could be hosted this week.

Nintendo Direct events usually include a range of new games announcements from Nintendo, combining both first-party and third-party reveals.

An earlier one in January revealed that Dark Souls Remastered and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze ports were in development.

So a big new Nintendo Direct March 2018 event would surely include something exciting too.

Pokemon fans will be hoping it has something to do with the upcoming Nintendo Switch RPG, which is rumoured for launch later this year.

It’s also possible that a Metroid Prime 4 trailer could be shown, or something entirely different that hasn’t been announced yet.

It should also be noted that this currently only a rumour, although it is from a source that has got quite a lot right recently.

Video Games Journalist Marcus Sellars posted the news on Twitter, telling his followers: “There will be a Nintendo Direct this Thursday. (8th March).

Nintendo have said anything about hosting a new event this week, however, it will definitely be worth watching out for whatever new announcements are coming are way.

Showcasing a Nintendo Direct in March would give the company plenty of time to start teasing new games, before releasing new information at E3.

Several ports have been linked to the Switch of late, including Soul Calibur 6, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Diablo 3.

One thing we can probably rule out is a new Nintendo Switch Mini console being announced.

While there is plenty of room to build on the basic Switch design, it doesn’t appear that anything like this will be arriving in 2018.

A recent report claims that Nintendo are not yet turning their attentions to releasing a Nintendo Switch XL just yet.

The next 12 months will not see the Japanese games giant announce a console upgrade, who will instead be focusing on peripheral sales.

This comes from the Wall Street Journal, who cite sources that are confident on the subject.

Nintendo LABO kits will be more of a focus in year two, which have been tailored to the family market.

However, the WSJ report does not rule out new console variants launching as part of an expanded Switch range in the future.
