Ever since the first Mamma Mia 2 trailer landed fans have been worried that their favourite character has sung her last.
Eagle-eyed viewers spotted that Streep’s hippy dippy darling Donna was never shown in a scene with any other character in Mama Mia! Here We Go Again.
Has she died? Will she only be shown in flashbacks?
Is Donna really dead?
In this case it isn’t Does Your Mother Know, but rather what the daughter knows, since Amanda Seyfried has the answer…
Seyfried plays Streep’s on-screen daughter Sophie.
The trailer already showed that the sequel would explore Donna’s youthful indiscretions, leaving many fans worried that the Oscar-winning actress would only briefly cameo as her character from beyond the grave or in flashbacks.
In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Seyfried addressed the rumours and speculations directly.

Seyfried said: “You do see her. She’s, Meryl is very much a part of this movie. No, there are absolutely no flashbacks. No, because all the ‘flashbacks’ are of Lily [James] playing Donna. So it’s a prequel and a sequel, and so you see Meryl is very much a part of it.”
The good news is that Streep will definitely appear on screen but it still doesn’t explain her strange absence from all the group scenes shown so far…
Unfortunately we still have months until we find out..
