Nintendo Switch update – Great news for fans hoping for Monster Hunter World port

has just celebrated its first birthday, with the hybrid console already building up a hugely enviable library of games.

Exclusives like Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe mean Switch fans have plenty of great games to play.

With the console entering its second year, attention will be shifting towards what games Nintendo are planning for 2018 and beyond.

One game that’s surely high on gamers’ wishlist would be Monster Hunter World, with an established Nintendo fanbase thanks to previous games in the series appearing on Wii, Wii U and 3DS.

However, Monster Hunter World is not available on the Switch at the moment, and is only playable right now on PS4 and Xbox One.

Capcom have previously said bringing Monster Hunter World to the Nintendo Switch would be “difficult”.

In a recent interview, Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto responded to calls for a Monster Hunter World Switch version.

He said: “We’re aware of that request.

“However, taking into account various conditions, bringing Monster Hunter: World now for release is difficult.

“The reason is that the Switch has different functions from other stationary consoles as well as different players.”

However, Tsujimoto-san said he was not ruling out more Monster Hunter games appearing on the Nintendo Switch.

He said: “From now on, we’re looking at how we can support the Switch with our games, and that also includes Monster Hunter.”

A version of Monster Hunter Generations, called Monster Hunter XX, is out on the Nintendo Switch right now – but only in Japan.

And it’s unclear whether that will be getting a release in the UK and US.

But despite Capcom pouring cold water on the idea of a Monster Hunter World port for Switch, fans shouldn’t lose hope just yet.

That’s because a former PlayStation executive has thrown his hat into the ring and said his studio is interested in working on a port.

Adam Boyes is the ex-director of production at Capcom and a former PlayStation executive.

He now serves as CEO of Iron Galaxy Studios, who have developed various ports – including last year’s version of Skyrim for the Switch.

And Boyes has said he and his studio are up for the challenge of porting Monster Hunter World to the Nintendo Switch, Wccftech reported.

In a tweet over the weekend, he said: “Dear @monsterhunter team at Capcom – we understand that porting the game to Nintendo Switch is challenging but this is exactly what [Iron Galaxy Studios] does.

“Give us a shot & we won’t let you down ;)”.

In other Capcom news, Monster Hunter World has become the best selling game in Capcom’s history.

The Japanese gaming giant revealed today that they have shipped 7.5million copies of Monster Hunter World.

It has impressively managed to register the sales milestone in just five weeks, beating entries in major franchises such as Resident Evil and Street Fighter.
