‘Mass casualty incident’ Ambulances rush to Houston school amid fears of major gas leak

Parents have been told to pick up their children from school as ambulances and fire crews rush to the Young Women’s Preparatory Academy. 

Houston Fire Department declared a “mass casualty incident” as pupils are treated for headaches and nausea. 

At least 20 students have been struck down by the symptoms with eyewitnesses saying pupils were seen crying and coughing outside the building.  

Pupils have been seen being stretchered onto ambulances as fire crews said students are being taken to hospital as a precaution. 

Houston Fire Department said: “HFD Responded to a gas leak in the 1900 block of Cleburne. Incident is considered stable.

“Number of patients is now at eight or nine. Reports of nausea and headache.

“Plan is to transport as a precaution. School officials are contacting parents to pick up kids from school.”
