Avengers Infinity War: Was the Soul Stone hidden in Black Panther all along?

Avengers: Infinity War will show Thanos tracking down the stones, which have been gradually introduced in an array of Marvel movies in recent years.

The Soul Stone is the one that’s still MIA, with many expecting it to pop up in Black Panther.

“I love the Infinity Stones as much as any comic book fan, it’s just Wakanda already has its thing, which is Vibranium,” director Ryan Coogler told IGN.

“For us, that was special enough, so to throw in something like another special thing didn’t feel right.

“It felt like we should stick with our one MacGuffin for the country and explore that, let that be the important thing because frankly, we didn’t need to have another piece like that.”

But was the Soul Stone alluded to after all?

Writing on Reddit, user pipelinevictim posed an interesting theory. Mild spoiler for Black Panther ahead.

“[In] the interrogation of Klaue he says ‘they’ve been mining vibranium forever and they have only scratched the surface’, I believe the stone is at the bottom of the vibranium mine.

“Also, the stone has been there since before man. That tells me, the stone has been embedded with the earth itself in Wakanda. Everything seems to be connected in some way. Everything is made from this stuff.

“Plus the heart shaped herb from the plants that only grow there!? The stone acts as a seed and it grew into what is now Wakanda.

“It makes since for Thanos’s army to be there in Wakanda. You can’t just pull it out of the ground, he needs man power for it.”

What do you think?

Black Panther is out now. Avengers: Infinity War follows on April 27.
