What is the tone of Aquaman? Will Momoa make it more of a comedy following his performance in Justice League? Will he ever wear the classic green and gold costume from the comics?
How much will Amber Heard’s Mera feature? What kind of villain is Orm?
How directly will director James Wan’s background in dark action and horror be brought to the latest DCEU movie?
All these questions have been answered after the film’s first test screening (with incomplete special effects) earlier this week was covered by numerous fan sites.
Refreshingly, nobody has included plot spoilers but there is plenty of very good news for fans.

Batman News said: “Aquaman was described to me as an emotional action movie. I was told that the tone is similar to Wonder Woman. There is humour, but it’s more of a drama. And thanks to director James Wan’s previous work there are elements of horror as well.
“Aquaman has Star Wars-like underwater battles, scary monsters, lots of emotions, and an amazing villain in Orm, played by Patrick Wilson. Amber Heard’s Mera is very much a co-lead and not just a love interest to Jason Momoa’s Aquaman.”
Another site has even more details.
Manabyte.com said: “Black Manta does appear and his costume and origin are comic-accurate, and some of the leaked stuff recently showing a familiar costume for Arthur was accurate as well.
“Orm was described to me as similar in motivation and methods to Loki in the MCU movies, which is a great sign as Loki is one of Marvel’s stronger villains.”
A third source, Jeremy Conrad, who was previously at IGN confirmed: “Aquaman does have his classic look in the movie. Gold tunic, green pants and gauntlets… It’s set after Justice League, but then he gets his classic look later in the movie.”
It is not unusual for studios to start test screenings many months before the movie is finished. This will help determine whether reshoots or plot tweaks are needed.
Effect-heavy movies are often completing the digital finishing touches just weeks before a movie hits screens, so test screenings necessarily need to show some incomplete sequences. Test screening are usually more focussed on whether plot points and characters connect with audiences.
AQUAMAN IS OUT ON DECEMBER 21
