It’s all hotting up now for Craig’s fifth and final James Bond movie.
While Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who co-wrote the last six 007 films, have been working on the 2019 film’s script – they now have a rival.
According to Deadline, Boyle is developing a script, with himself in mind to direct the movie.
With a specific idea of his own, his Trainspotting screenwriter John Hodge is currently working on their own separate story.
With a few months of writing to go, MGM will either take on Hodge’s script, ignoring Purvis and Wade’s, and take Boyle on to direct – or go with the regulars and use another director.

After all, it’s not very likely the filmmaker will take on Bond 25 without his idea-driven script.
Other directors in the loop are Yann Demange, David Mackenzie and Paul McGuigan – while Denis Villeneuve and Christopher Nolan have counted themselves out this time around, but aren’t ruling out directing Bond in the future.
Rumours Boyle was high on the list of MGM’s potential directors appeared earlier this week.
The Oscar-winner is unique in that he’s already directed Craig as Bond in a short film for the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony with The Queen.
James Bond 25 will be released in UK cinemas in November 2019.
