Snapchat to reverse new 2018 app design? Message gives fans hope of a redesign

Twitter users have flocked to retweet a post that claims Snapchat could reverse its .

The tweet – published by Isaac Svobodny – appears to show a direct message exchange between Mr Svobodny and a representative from Snapchat.

In the screenshot of the exchange, Mr Svobodny writes: “Hey Snapchat, this update is terrible. How many RT’s would it take for you to change it back?”

Snapchat replies: “Though we have received many complaints on the new layout, we understand that it just may take some getting used to.

“If it appears to be a general consensus that people want the old format back, we will take that into consideration.

“And as far as retweets go, how does 50,000 sound?”

Users have flocked to the tweet, with Svobodny’s racking up more than 1.5million retweets in a few days alone.

It has also received almost 600,000 likes – making it the fifth most retweeted post in the history of the social network.

Unfortunately for users who hoped this would spell an end to the new Snapchat design, it is a fake.

Mr Svobodny’s conversation with the Snapchat representative has since been discredited.

The brings together all of your friends’ posts into a single feed, including Stories, individual text messages, videos and Snaps, which is accessed by swiping from left-to-right on the main camera screen.

Content from professional publishers is collected together into another feed, accessed by swiping right-to-left on the same viewfinder display.

Snapchat believes this separation between friends’ content and sponsored posts from publishers will be key to its success going forward.

Until now, Stories from friends were displayed on the same page as from news outlets, like MTV and Mashable.

According to data supplied to TechCrunch, 83 per cent of App Store reviews (1,941) for the new update are negative with one or two stars.

More than 1,055,900 irate Snapchatters have taken to Change.org to demand the removal of the recent update.

The Change.org petition was launched by Australian user Nic Rumsey.

At the time of writing, the petition is quickly closing in on 1,500,000 signatures, with users from the UK, Romania and Norway all signing their names.

Describing the purpose of the petition, Nic Rumsey writes: “With the release of the new Snapchat update, many users have found that it has not made the app easier to use, but has in fact made many features more difficult.

“There is a general level of annoyance among users and many have decided to use a VPN app, or are using other risky apps or steps, to go back to the old Snapchat as that’s how annoying this new update has become.

“Many ‘new features’ are useless or defeats the original purposes Snapchat has had for the past years.

“This petition aims to help convince Snap Inc. to change the app back to the basics, before the new 2018 update.”

However, Snap Inc is still sticking to its guns.

Speaking to the BBC, SnapChat reiterated that it hoped users would get used to the chat app’s new look.

Snapchat said updates “can take a little getting used to” and added: “We hope the community will enjoy it once they settle in.”
