The fourteenth annual Glasgow Film Festival opens on Wednesday February 21 with the UK premiere of Wes Anderson’s animated adventure Isle of Dogs.
With more than three hundred exclusive screenings taking place over the 12-day event, the festival promises something for everyone, from mainstream crowd-pleasers to groundbreaking art-house experimentation.
This year’s festival boasts serious star-power, with guests including Karen Gillan, who walks the red carpet in support of her directorial debut The Party’s Just Beginning on Saturday 24 February.
The GFF red carpet will also welcome Gemma Arterton for the UK premiere of thoughtful domestic drama The Escape, and Jessie Buckley for the Scottish premiere of smouldering British thriller Beast.
David Tennant attends the festival for rom-com with a twist You, Me and Him, which receives its first European screening at the festival, and Paddy Considine attends for the Scottish premiere of Journeyman, which he directs and stars in.
Other highlights from a packed programme include Custody, a tense, gripping depiction of the fallout from a bitter custody battle that earned Xavier Legrand the Venice Film Festival Best Director award, and Pin Cushion, a gothic, coming of age fairy tale starring Joanna Scanlan.
Receiving its World premiere at the festival, The Camino Voyage tells the story of four individuals who embark on an epic, three-year pilgrimage from Ireland to Northern Spain in a handmade Naomhóg rowing boat.
The festival’s famed Special Events also return, with highlights including an immersive screening of Working Girl on the thirteenth floor of an office block, and rare silent Italian drama Assunta Spina, complete with a new live score from The Badwills, in Divas, Despots and Dancing.
The festival hosts the ultimate 80s v 90s School Disco with Clueless and Gregory’s Girl at SWG3 Glasgow.
The World premiere of Felipe Bustos Sierra’s Nae Pasaran will offer a resounding end to this year’s festival on Sunday 4 March, telling the true story of the group of Scots who defied a dictatorship.
