Barcelona news: Lionel Messi sends message to Cristiano Ronaldo after Chelsea goal

The Barcelona star scored a vital equaliser against Chelsea in the Champions League to earn his side a 1-1 draw.

Willian netted to open the scoring but Messi took advantage of a loose Andreas Christensen pass to take a crucial away goal into the second leg.

And when his low drive hit the back of the net he burst towards Andres Iniesta, who played the assist, and celebrated more than usual.

The burden of not netting against Chelsea in his past eight matches was finally lifted and the relief was evident for all to see.

But the 30-year-old also reportedly sent a clear message to his Real Madrid rival Ronaldo.

That is according to Spanish outlet Diario Gol, who says Messi indicated that he is wiling to fight to ensure the Catalan club secure European honours this campaign.

Ronaldo scored twice against Paris Saint-Germain in Real’s last-16 tie last week.

But Messi has now given his side a fighting chance to book a quarter-final spot.

Diario Gol add that Messi wants to prove that he is still better than Ronaldo, and there is no greater stage to show that than in the Champions League.

The Argentina international is also not afraid to take on Eden Hazard or Neymar, it is suggested.
