President’s Day 2018: Is there school today? Are schools closed tomorrow?

President’s Day – also known as Washington’s Birthday – falls on the third Monday in February each year in the United States.

This year, the special commemoration falls on March 19.

A national federal holiday, the date honours presidents of the United States, including George Washington, the USA’s first president.

President’s Day is what’s known as a federal or bank holiday in the USA.

This means all banks, the post office, the stock exchange, many schools, and the DMV are all closed.

Is there school today?

Across the USA, there will be parades and carnivals today as some people will be treated to a day off from school or work.

For those still in education, most schools are closed in order to observe President’s Day.

However, parents are advised to check with each institution to avoid getting caught out.

While most schools are not open, some private schools or public schools trying to make up a snow day may be open.

For example, in 2017 Wake County in North Carolina remained open for President’s Day to make-up for lost classes after lessons had to be cancelled for three days in January due to a snowstorm.

Are schools closed tomorrow?

Schools that did close to celebrate President’s Day 2018 will reopen tomorrow, February 20.

After that, the next national holiday will not be until Monday, March 26 when many schools will break up for the spring holidays.

Students will also celebrate Spring Break in the coming months, with some universities having already broken up for the annual break on February 10.

Others, including the University of Arizona and Penn State, will break up on March 3.
