Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp eyeing surprise move Victor Wanyama and one thing may help

Liverpool will welcome Naby Keita to the club in the summer once he completes his move from RB Leipzig.

But while the Reds already have one player coming in, there are still major question marks over one current Liverpool star and whether he will leave.

Emre Can is yet to commit his future to the club and Juventus are expected make an approach once his contract is up at the end of the season.

And Liverpool are said to be already preparing for his possible departure by turning their attention to Tottenham’s Wanyama.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim the Reds are closely monitoring his situation under Mauricio Pochettino.

It is said both Manchester United and Chelsea are also showing an interest in the Kenya international.

Liverpool’s former Southampton contingent of Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne, Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane and Dejan Lovren all played with Wanyama at some point during their careers on the south coast which could count in the Reds’ favour.

Steven Gerrard recently suggested his former club will need to make a move for a “monster” central midfielder in the summer with Can expected to leave.

And, although somewhat tongue-in-cheek, Gerrard suggested Wanyama would be the ideal addition to Klopp’s side.

“I think Liverpool would benefit from a monster of a central midfielder, a holder,” Gerrard said on BT Sport.

“A Wanyama-type player who does sit in and is disciplined, and he would give more protection to the back four.

“Emre Can’s leaving, obviously Keita’s coming in. But Keita is a No 8, Keita is a dribbler, and a runner.

“The way he (Klopp) plays he plays 4-3-3 more often than not. So you can accommodate a Henderson and a Keita.”
