Brexit secretary David Davis holds meeting at Downing Street after ‘war cabinet’ talks

His comments mark the first major fallout over the next stage of negotiations, as Mr Davis said EU plans to sanction the UK are not in “good faith”.

Mr Davis told broadcasters: “I do not think it was in good faith to publish a document with frankly discourteous language and actually implying that they could arbitrarily terminate in effect the implementation period.

“That’s not what the aim of this exercise is, it’s not in good faith, and we think it was unwise to publish that.”

Brexit negotiators are holding a meeting at No.9 Downing Street a day after Theresa May’s “war cabinet” met to thrash out their Brexit differences.

The meeting followed rows between “hard Brexit” enthusiasts and sceptical ministers in favour of a “soft ” departure.

Mr Davis’ meeting in No.9 comes after prominent Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg presented a Daily Express petition to No. 10 Downing Street, after more than 100,000 readers demanded Britain’s foreign aid budget is cut.

The petition has asked the Prime Minister Theresa May to slashed the budget so more money can be spent on the NHS and social care for the elderly.

Rees-Mong delivered the message while Mrs May was in her a Brexit Cabinet meeting, where she she laid out her plans for leaving the bloc amid pressure from “Hard Brexiteers”.

The building used to be the office of the judicial committee of the privy council, until it was relocated into the old Middlesex Guildhall along with the supreme court in 2009.
