That’s according to Spanish transfer rumour specialists Don Balon, who claim Ronaldo has learned Umtiti is wanted by a host of top clubs.
Umtiti has forged a reputation as one of Europe’s best centre-backs since joining Barcelona from Lyon back in 2016.
And his form has seen him linked with Manchester United and Manchester City, with his £53m (€60m) buyout fee reasonable in today’s transfer market.
The latest reports from Spain suggest Ronaldo has discovered Messi wants to prevent Umtiti from leaving by having a new deal handed to the 24-year-old.
Don Balon say Ronaldo has been made aware that Umtiti is being targeted by teams from across the continent, including Paris Saint-Germain.
And Umtiti is apparently tempted by the opportunities being presented to him.
Ronaldo knows Messi is unwilling to see the France international leave the Nou Camp without a fight though.
And the Argentine has told Barcelona to sort a fresh contract out which increases the set price on Umtiti’s head.
Barcelona have until July 1 to follow Messi’s supposed instructions and agree terms with Umtiti.
If they fail to act by then they could lose him immediately if his release clause is activated.
