Nintendo Switch UPDATE – PS4, Xbox One fans should be worried for THIS one big reason

has been out for less than a year, but has already posted big sales numbers that will be getting the attention of PS4 and Xbox One bosses.

In its first 10 months on sale the Nintendo Switch has managed to sell a staggering 14.86million.

This big number is made all the more impressive by the Nintendo Switch suffering from widespread stock shortages in the months following its launch.

It also means that the Nintendo Switch has managed to outsell the amount its predecessor, the Wii U, sold during it entire five year lifetime.

The Switch has had a hugely impressive start sales wise, and Nintendo’s plans for the future will surely be closely watched by PS4 and Xbox One bigwigs.

Nintendo have already said they are hoping to sell 37million Switch consoles within its first two years.

This is around half what the PS4 has managed to sell in just over four years.

Nintendo are also hoping the Switch manages to eventually match the sales of the Wii (101.63 million), its best selling home console ever.

Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima recently said: “The truth is we want to raise the installed base of Nintendo Switch up to the same level as Wii.”

And there is one big thing that Nintendo is planning which could ensure it wins the console wars this time round.

Kimishima-san revealed that Nintendo are planning on supporting the Switch way past their traditional console lifecycle of five to six years.

While this means a new Nintendo home console is a long way off, it does mean the Switch will be on the shelves and getting new games for many more years.

Kimishima-san even went as far as saying Nintendo could support the Switch from anywhere between seven to 10 years, GamingBolt reported.

That will give Nintendo plenty of time to ensure the Switch hits the same amount of sales as the Wii.

And, if the Switch continues to sell well, it could even be aiming long-term to not only eclipse the PS4, but also the PS2 – the best selling console of all time.

The PS2 in its lifetime sold a staggering 155million units, more than double what 76million units the PS4 has sold so far.

The PlayStation 2 is just ahead of the Nintendo DS (154.02million), the second best selling console ever.

The Switch has a long way to go before it reaches these heights.

But, if the hit hybrid console is on sale for a decade, it’ll give Nintendo a great chance of smashing the current console sales records.
