Xperia XZ2 release – New image may reveal a big new feature coming to Sony’s next flagship

Xperia fans hoping to see a new Xperia XZ2 in early 2018 are likely to face disappointment.

It’s thought this new flagship won’t arrive until the autumn but that doesn’t mean Sony isn’t planning some big announcements a little sooner.

Rumours suggest that next month’s Mobile World Congress show will see a number of new smartphones being unveiled including the all-new Xperia XZ Pro.

This flagship is likely to sit at the very top of Sony’s devices, offering a premium experience and top-end specifications.

Latest leaks suggest the Pro will include the latest Snapdragon 845 processor from Qualcomm, which will not only make it faster but also far more battery efficient than anything we’ve seen before.

Qualcomm’s latest technology will also allow the Pro to get a super fast charge taking it from flat to 50 per cent in around 15 minutes.

Like Sony’s previous premium smartphones, this latest model could also feature a 4K HDR OLED display which will make it the ultimate device for watching Netflix and Amazon Prime Video on the move.

One piece of more controversial news is that which would follow Apple, Google and HTC’s decisons to rid this popular connection from thier devices.

This is all speculation but a new leaked image may show a new feature that will surely please Xperia fans.

An alleged schematic posted by PhoneCorridor reveals the Pro may feature a dual-lens camera on the rear of the device.

This double camera has been rumoured for a while but, if the image is correct, this could prove it’s finally becoming a reality.

It’s thought the camera setup will consist of an 18-megapixel primary sensor and secondary 12-megapixel lens.

It’s unclear if these will offer both wide-angle and zoom functions but having dual cameras should mean the Xperia XZ Pro is capable of producing DSLR-style depth of field effects.

Although it appears a dual camera is coming, one thing that remains unclear is whether or not the Xperia Pro will include an edge-to-edge display.

Sony is yet to produce a device with minimal bezels and it’s something that is making their smartphones appear dated when placed alongside the competition.

The schematic does show the front of the phone but there’s no indication of how far the display will stretch across it.

Luckily, there’s not too long to wait with Mobile Word Congress opening its doors on February 26.
