Chelsea news: Antonio Conte stands firm over transfer rants

The Stamford Bridge boss is walking a tightrope with outspoken comments about transfer policies that have angered owner Roman Abramovich and the Chelsea board.

This strained relationship leads many to believe the Italian will be gone in the summer but he doesn’t regret his words.

Conte said: “For sure I’m not a diplomatic man. I think you can see this. At the same time, I think I’m very honest. I’m sure if I try to change myself, it’s right to stop my career.

“In this moment I’m a coach. I think the honest person speaks very clearly in every moment. If you are fake, you try always to not tell the truth. I prefer to be honest, to tell the truth in every moment. I hate the fake person.”

Asked if his honesty could cost him his job, Conte laughed and added: “This is a good question but I answered you before.

“There are no regrets. I think when I take a decision, I don’t want to look behind. I want always to look at the present, to look in front of me.

“I think this is the best way to improve yourself, to try to find a solution. Don’t try to find alibis, excuses. I think this is the right way.

“You ask me if I had regrets, my answer is this. I think when you take a decision you have to go straight because I think this is the best way to find solutions.

“Otherwise you continue to complain. You have to go straight and to try to improve your future if this is possible.”

Whatever his Chelsea future, Conte has no thoughts of retiring and added: “It’s very difficult to understand when is the right time to stop.

Sometimes you think you are cutting a lot of time with your family, but on the other hand when you are fond of your job the football misses you.

“For sure, the way I do my job you lose a lot of energy. I’m not a manager who stays in his office. I’m a coach. My life is on the pitch, to try to improve my players, to try to put my idea of football on the pitch.

“To prepare for a game every three days you spend a lot of energy. I’m very young (at 48) to decide to retire. I think maybe another 10 years and I’ll start to think about it.

“I still have job satisfaction. I had this opportunity in a fantastic country, in one of the best leagues, maybe the best in the world. I’m enjoying a lot this situation, but if you want an easy life you make easy decisions.

“To be a coach in England in this league is not an easy life because in every game you have to fight a lot.

“I’m enjoying a lot my time here and I am proud of my achievements here because I think we are doing fantastic things. I love it here. It is a great club.

“For sure. I’m really proud, because I think that we are doing fantastic things and I’m really proud because to work in this way you must be really proud for what we are doing, me and the players.

“When you take a decision, you have to go straight. Because I think this is the best way to find solutions. Otherwise you continue to complain. You have to go straight and to try to improve your future if this is possible. Otherwise you must continue to work.

“I love it here. Chelsea’s history speaks very clear. This is a great club. This is a great club.”
