The earthquake was registered at a strength of 5.7, just days after a huge 8.0 quake put the western coast of America and parts of Mexico on tsunami alert.
Today’s Panama earthquake hit at a depth of 25 miles around 110 miles from the populous Panama City, which is home to 400,000 people.
Earthquake tracking website EMSC-CSEM registered dozens of testimonies from people who experienced the quake.
One resident of Panama City said: “[I’m on the] 11th floor in a Panama City building. Big shake, plates on the table moved, drinks spilled.”
Another in the city said: “Very strong.”
A third resident of the capital said: “I live in a high-rise building. It felt like they were trying to move the building.”
EMSC-CSEM said a tsunami warning was not issued and no damage was expected.
