What is the Longevity Diet? Weight loss plan claims to cause longer life

The Longevity Diet is a new weight loss diet plan book set for release on February 8.

The author, Dr. Valter Longo claims that by eating certain foods you can be slim and live longer.

He claims the diet is clinically tested to help you lose weight, slow-down ageing and fight disease.

The back cover of tome states: “Can what you eat determine how long, and how well, you live? The clinically proven answer is yes, and The Longevity Diet is easier to follow than you’d think.”

What is the Longevity Diet?

The diet encourages fasting, which the author claims helps you to live to an old age and lose weight.

Doctor Longo studied mice and found that fasting-mimicking diets “can activate stem cells and promote regeneration and rejuvenation in multiple organs to reduce the risk for diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer’s and heart disease.”

The plan is a pescetarian diet, meaning all meat but fish is cut out, and it is low in proteins and sugars and rich in healthy fats and plant-based foods.

It then includes four fast-mimicking diets per year, which last five days at a time.

Longevity Diet recipes

A Longevity Diet recipe could include vegetarian lasagna made with whole wheat pasta.

A typical breakfast could be scrambled eggs on toast with spinach.

Another breakthrough diet plan claims to help you lose more than two stone in three months.

A new surgery-free gastric balloon could help you shed about 14kg on average, after just three months.

Adding this food to your diet plan could increase fat burning by 16 per cent.

Weight loss and fat burning can be boosted by eating cayenne pepper, according to experts.

This is because the spice helps limit the amount you eat and encourages your body to burn more calories.

Dr. Marilyn Glenville, a nutritionist and author of The Natural Health Bible for Women said: “A substance called capsaicin is found in peppers and it is the compound that gives peppers their heat.”
