Nintendo Switch games 2018: Has the best news just been announced?

What is the best news a Nintendo Switch games console owner could hear in 2018?

It could be something like the new Pokemon RPG release date being announced for launch in the next 10 months.

It could also be news on what Nintendo are planning for their Virtual Console support.

But it could also be news that more Nintendo Switch games projects are in development for 2018 by quite a margin.

The sixth year of the State of the Industry Survey of Game Developers Conference has been announced, and makes some for some great reading.

“The Game Developers Conference has surveyed nearly 4,000 game developers as part of the sixth annual State of the Industry Survey, which provides a snapshot of the game industry and highlights industry trends ahead of GDC 2018 in March,” the official report explains.

“Significant trends revealed by the survey results include a notable uptick in interest in the Nintendo Switch, game makers’ waning opinions of VR, and a move away from mobile to focus on PC and home consoles.”

The new survey data shows that 12% of those asked are currently developing games for the Nintendo Switch.

That’s up from 3% in 2017 and there were even more positive results noted from among developers looking to the future.

“Sometimes, the console you’re most interested in has nothing to do with your current project. With that in mind we asked developers which platforms (if any) interest them most right now, and “PC” proved the most popular answer with 59 percent — followed by PlayStation 4/4 Pro (39 percent) and, close behind it, Nintendo Switch (36 percent),” the survey results add.

“This is a big deal for Nintendo, given that in our surveys respondents typically favor PC, mobile, PS4, and Xbox One.

“However, this year Switch surpassed Xbox and mobile in terms of developer interest; as mentioned, 36 percent of respondents said they were most interested in the Switch, while 30 percent said smartphones/tablets and 28 percent said Xbox One/One X.”

With developer interest growing in the Nintendo Switch, it seems very likely that we will see a lot of new projects announced in the future.

31 percent of those asked also said they weren’t making a game for the Nintendo Switch but were considering making one in the future.

We already know about a lot of new Nintendo Switch games project but it seems certain that Nintendo will reveal even more during E3 2018.

These will probably not be ready for launch this year, but will help drive sales of the new console with promises of even better support in 2019.

Organised by the UBM Game Network, GDC 2018 will take place this year March 19th through the 23rd at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, California.
