Is a new MacBook Air on its way? Apple rumoured to be launching update this year

The MacBook Air is one of Apple’s most iconic devices.

The super-sim laptop was first unveiled by Apple co-founder, Steve Jobs, in January 2008 and became an instant success.

In fact,up until July 1, 2013, the MacBook Air took in a massive 56 per cent of all Ultrabook sales in the United States, despite being one of the most expensive.

Its stunning aluminium design and svelte form factor has mean’t that, after 10 years, the MacBook Air is still on sale today with it now costing under £1,000.

Despite its popularity the MacBook Air is beginning to show its age with Apple’s new MacBook and rival machines offering faster processors, more memory and stunning HD Retina displays.

Now a new rumour suggests the US technology firm could be planning a major update to its entry-level MacBook with the launch of a new 13-inch portable PC.

According to digitimes, Apple could unveil its revamped Air in the second half of 2018.

The report suggests Taiwanese screen supplier General Interface Solution is looking set to receive a major order to produce 13-inch LCD displays which could be used in the new model.

Apple has a habit of unveiling new Macs in the latter part of the year with the all-new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar first being revealed in October 2016.

There’s no word on whether this rumour is true but a MacBook Air reboot is sure to be hugely popular.

The year has already started with a major will be available to pre-order from Friday.

This new device was first announced at Apple’s WWDC developers conference back in June 2017 with it originally due to launch in December.

This release was pushed back with Apple saying they needed a little more time to make sure the quality of the HomePod matched their very high standards.

Despite the delay to its launch, Apple’s HomePod does have one major advantage over many of its current rivals as this speaker features top-end sound quality.

Apple’s devices are always aimed at the more premium end of the market and the HomePod is sticking firmly with this tradition.

Express.co.uk was lucky enough to hear the HomePod last year and there’s no doubting that its sound credentials are impressive.

HomePod combines Apple-engineered audio technology and advanced software to deliver the highest-fidelity sound throughout the room.

Apple also boasts that the HomePod is equipped with spatial awareness which means it will fill a room with sound no matter where it’s placed.

It’s also the only smart speaker that features compatibility with Apple Music which is sure to make it hugely popular with the millions of subscribers to this service.

Along with music, the HomePod can also perform a huge range of other tasks such as sending messages, setting timers and reminders plus checking the local weather reports.

“HomePod is a magical new music experience from Apple. It brings advanced audio technologies like beam-forming tweeters, a high-excursion woofer and automatic spatial awareness, together with the entire Apple Music catalogue and the latest Siri intelligence, in a simple, beautiful design that is so much fun to use,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

“We’re so excited for people to get HomePod into their homes, apartments and businesses to hear it for themselves. We think they will be blown away by the audio quality.”
