BREAKING: Donald Trump signs funding bill to end 69-hour shutdown of US Government

The US Senate had been deadlocked since Friday night after Republicans and Democrats failed to agree on funding measures.

The lack of agreement led to government services being temporarily shut and thousands of staff employed by the federal state being forced to take unpaid leave.

The news was confirmed by the White House in a statement.

The Trump administration said “the President signed into law” the Recognise, Assist, Include, Support, and Engage Family Caregivers Act of 2017.

They said the bill “convenes a Family Caregiving Advisory Council and established and maintains a national family caregiving strategy.”

The bill temporarily provides funding for Government services which have been without money since the end of last week.

National parks were forced to close during the deadlock and staff at agencies including the intelligence services were unable to be paid.

The agreement signed by the US President was an emergency bill supported by both political parties to provide funding for services until February 8 by which point a long term deal must be agreed.
