The Korean surprise package beat Novak Djokovic 7-6, 7-5, 7-6 to reach the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.
But during the game he continually went over to his corner and pointed to the ground indicating that he wanted to remain in the competition.
Reporters after the match drew comparisons with Real Madrid forward Ronaldo, but Chung denied those claims and insisted it was only to try and retain his focus.
When asked if his celebration was linked to Ronaldo, he said: “No.
“I’m just trying to focus on this moment.”
Chung’s victory was helped by Djokovic’s injury which became apparent when he took a medical timeout after the first set.
“I think like after the first set, he had a medical timeout,” Chung added.
“He looked tired.
“I’m just trying to play the same so far this tournament.
“I’m just trying to be more relaxed and more focused because he was playing really good.
“He’s been No1 in the world, so I had to focus every point.”
Only world number 97 Tennys Sandgren stands in the way of Chung and a memorable semi-final spot.
But he is not getting carried away just yet.
“He’s really good player,” he said.
“I think he make first quarter-final, same like me. I’m just ready for him. I have to do good recovery first.”
