The Chile international is set to be unveiled by Manchester United at some point tomorrow after successfully undergoing a medical at Carrington this morning.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan will move in the opposite direction in a straight player-swap deal but it is Sanchez who is garnering the most attention, partly because of how United stole the deal from under the noses of their fierce city rivals.
It seemed inevitable Sanchez would end up at the Etihad after he was on the verge of joining them in the summer, only for a deal to fall through in transfer deadline day.
Despite the set-back, it was reported the 29-year-old had already agreed terms with City on a contract to either sign this month or on a free at the end of the season.
However, Jose Mourinho’s side came in late with a bigger offer to sway Sanchez to red side of Manchester.

It was seen as a strange choice in part because of the fact he could have gone to City and won a league title this year.
But former England international Ince believes United still have more pulling power due to their illustrious history.
“Some might get the quick satisfaction of winning the league this year, but those years of history, and the side that Mourinho is building – players want to be a part of that,” Ince said.
“This signing only confirms that. Sanchez had the opportunity to go into a team where he could have won a trophy.
“But he didn’t, he chose to go to United because of everything they stand for and that says a lot about the size of the club.
“City have some unbelievable players, but winning the league this year doesn’t mean anything. They need to do that year upon year and collect trophies to compete with United. That’s the true test. They’re not serial winners. United are and that’s why players want to be there.
“With the Champions League around the corner, this is a huge boost. Sanchez hasn’t come to Old Trafford not to play. He’s come to show how good he is, on the top stage, which is Europe. He’s a special player and the sort that doesn’t come around that often, and I’d say United’s hopes of winning their fourth European trophy have just got a lot more likely.”
