The Commuter review: Liam Neeson has yet to retire from action movies

It involved the 65-year-old saying something about retiring from action films.

As a very stylish opening progressed, I was convinced this had now come to pass.

As we jumped across time during his daily commute to Manhattan (the weather and Liam’s suits keep changing), we were learning about his life.

He’s a family man and a loving husband – a regular guy with the usual money worries.

Then we see him losing his job selling insurance. Tough.

Then he meets a friend for a drink. He’s a cop.

He used to be his partner.

So Liam’s an ex-cop.

Hang on, is this an action movie?

Now he’s back on the train chatting to a mysterious woman.

Did she say her gang have kidnapped his family?

And now he has to assassinate a passenger to save them?

So this is Taken meets Non-Stop? On a train?

Why don’t they just do it themselves, like normal gangsters?

Does this make any sense?

Weren’t you supposed to have retired, Liam?
