Pokemon Go Community Day going LIVE, new event Pikachu and Shiny hunt

The Pokemon Go Community Day start times have been confirmed by Niantic, who are staggering the launch of their latest event.

Fans in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region will be the first to start their adventures, followed by those in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India.

The official start time for the Community Day event is 10am in the UK, with a runtime set for around 1pm.

This Community event features special Pikachus and will also offer 3-hour lures and Double XP.

The short runtime means you’ll need to be active for those few hours to get the most out of the event.

If you do miss out, Niantic have confirmed that they will be hosting one every month in 2018.

“For just a few hours each month, you can encounter a special Pokemon in the wild,” a message from Niantic teases.

“During these hours, there’s a chance to learn a previously unavailable move for that Pokémon, as well as earn some Community Day bonuses.

“Celebrate what it means to be a part of the Pokémon GO community and make new friends along the way!”

One of the other special things about today is that the Pikachus caught during it will boast the move Surf.

Fans are also reporting that Shiny Pikachus are also a lot more common during the event, another bonus that Niantic have been keeping quiet about.

No other Shiny Pokemon have been spotted, so it seems that we probably won’t see other surprise launches today.

“Could have been because of the sheer amount of Pikachus. I caught like 8 of those now, without stepping outside of my house, and I have never seen a wild pikachu in between the past 2-3 holiday events,” one fan commented online.

“More pikachu, more chance at a shiny? Pikachu seems to spawn like pidgeys for now, even outside of “parks”.”

See below for event hours in your region:

  • The Asia-Pacific region: January 20, 2018, from 12:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. JST (GMT +9)
  • Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India: January 20, 2018, from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. UTC (GMT +0)
  • The Americas and Greenland: January 20, 2018, from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. PST (GMT -8)

Fans can even use the opportunity to battle Legendary Gen 3 Pokemon Kyogre.

The Legendary Pocket Monster is available in Raids until February 14.

It’s worth remembering that as a Water-type Pokemon, Kyogre is weak against Electric and Grass-type attacks.

“Its sole Fast Attack—Waterfall—is a Water-type attack, while its Charged Attack may be an Electric-type Thunder, Ice-type Blizzard, or Water-type Hydro Pump,” the Pokemon Company explains.

“Electric-type Pokemon are reliable choices regardless of Kyogre’s moves. Their Electric-type attacks will deal super effective damage to Kyogre, while none of Kyogre’s attacks are super effective in return.

“Raikou will be the most effective Electric-type Pokemon by far, with Zapdos and Jolteon trailing afterward.”
