The Greatest Showman: Who plays opera singer Jenny Lind? Does she really sing in the film?

Rebecca Ferguson plays opera singer Jenny Lind in The Greatest Showman.

The Swedish actress is known for her leading role as Elizabeth Woodville in The White Queen and earned her a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film.

She stars as a Swedish soprano in the musical film The Greatest Showman, alongside Hugh Jackman and Michelle Williams.

The film features some huge soundtracks, penned by Benj Hasek and Justin Paul – the songwriters behind La La Land.

Audiences will be amazed at the singing voice coming from Ferguson, but it is not actually her own singing voice used in the film.

Instead producers have dubbed her voice with singer Loren Allred.

Allred is best known for making it to the Top 20 on season three of The Voice.

Ferguson has spoken about Allred in interviews: “She is the most incredible singer. I am an actress and that is what I trained to do at least.”

The actress worked with a vocal coach for a month and a half to learn how to sing the track so she could properly perform is on stage during the scenes.

Even though Ferguson’s singing voice is not used in the film, other actresses used their own vocals.

Michelle Williams plays Charity Barnum, the wife of P.T. Barnum, and the singing voice you hear on screen is indeed Williams’ own.

“I find that singing and dancing is a direct path to joy. And I just wanted more of it, that’s why I wanted to make the film,” she told New Zealand Herald.

“Singing is natural for me. I don’t know if I’m the greatest in the world at it, but I just love it!”

The Greatest Showman is in cinemas now.
