North Korea fury as Kim accuses USA of DISRUPTING talks with Seoul

The allegation comes as relations between North and South Korea appear to be beginning to thaw despite soaring tensions between Pyongyang and Washington.

On January 9 North and South Korea held talks at ministerial level for the first time since December 2015.

The countries are even discussing fielding a joint women’s hockey team at the Winter Olympics in South Korea’s PyeongChang.

But the Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of Kim Jong-un’s crackpot regime, has claimed Washington is “preparing to deploy its strategic military assets around the Korean Peninsula.”

It said: “The US is repeating its pledge not to ease sanctions and pressure until the North abandons nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

“It is throwing cold water on an atmosphere of reconciliation.”

South Korea and the US have agreed to postpone the annual military drills Foal Eagle and Key Resolve that infuriate North Korea.

It comes as US President Donald Trump has disputed reports in the Wall Street Journal that he said he has a “very good relationship with Kim Jong-un.

Mr Trump has accused the paper of misquoting him, insisting that he actually said “I’d”.

Kim and the US President have traded insults and threats for the past year pushing the world to the brink of conflict.

Mr Trump has branded the North Korea leader a “maniac” and “little rocket man”.

Kim responded by calling Mr Trump a “mentally deranged US dotard”.

The US is leading a pressure campaign against Pyongyang by imposing sanctions as punishment for its nuclear and missile programs.
