BT Broadband is now offering guaranteed ultra fast speeds and compensation if it fails

BT customers are about to get a major boost to their broadband.

The telecoms giant has just announced its new Ultrafast Fibre packages which will bring speeds of over 300Mbps to cutsomers across the UK.

At this full speed you’ll able to download a full HD movie in under three minutes – the same would take almost an hour on current average speeds.

As well as being incredibly fast, BT is also offering compensation if speeds should ever drop below 100Mbps.

BT says no other UK Internet Service Provider currently guarantees these high speeds – backed by compensation.

“We are the first and only company to guarantee speeds of 100Mbps for our customers,  even at peak times when people really need their broadband to deliver,” said Marc Allera, chief executive of BT Consumer.

“Ultrafast technology is going to be a vital part of a transformation in the speed that our customers receive.

“Whether it is six in the evening or six in the morning, with Ultrafast Fibre everyone can be online at the same time, streaming, downloading and gaming.”

Prices will start from £54.99 a month for Ultrafast Fibre 1, which features speeds of up to 152Mbps, and the Ultrafast Fibre 2 option will cost £59.99 a month for speeds up to 314Mbps.

According to BT more than a quarter of a million homes in the UK are already able to take advantage its Ultrafast Fibre broadband with more expected to get this service in the coming months.

The new broadband products will be the fastest that BT Consumer sells and some of the fastest speeds available in the UK.

Here’s how they match up to current average speeds.

Download an HD movie (based on 4.1GB file size)

Standard broadband – 56 minutes 11 seconds

Ultrafast Fibre 1 – 5 minutes 37 seconds

Ultrafast Fibre 2 – 2 minutes 48 seconds

The news of the boost comes as BT customers are starting 2018 facing much higher bills.

The telecoms giant is putting up prices for millions of users from today with many facing an increase of around £2 per month.

BT states that these extra costs are being used to help invest in the future of its services with a spokesperson saying: “We are investing more than ever in broadband, including boosting the speed, data and cloud storage of millions of customers.

“And answering 85 per cent of our customers’ calls in the UK and Ireland by creating an extra 2,200 jobs here.

“We know that no one likes price changes, but this allows us to upgrade our services and give you more. Every customer will see improvements to their products and services alongside these changes.”
