Alexis Sanchez: When Man Utd could beat Man City in race to sign Arsenal star

Yesterday it emerged City would not pay the asking price for Sanchez with Arsenal still wanting £35m.

United appear ready to pay that fee but Sanchez still wants to play for Pep Guardiola at City.

However Ogden thinks he could change his mind if City refuse to up their bid when it comes to the crunch at the end of the month.

“I guess if by the last two or three days of the window City aren’t budging and United are prepared to pay the money and also maybe offer Arsenal a player in exchange, then Alexis Sanchez could end up at Old Trafford,” he said.

“United do need a player of his calibre, he would be eligible to play in the Champions League because he’s only played Europe League this season.”

But Ogden has warned Manchester United fans not to get too excited though, claiming City could still make a deadline-day move for Sanchez if a deal can be struck.

“I can see City standing to their guns and not paying over the odds, but if it boils down to the last day of the window to £6-7m between them signing him and him going to Man United, I wouldn’t be surprised if City make a late effort to say ‘look, we’ll pay a bit more, don’t go to Man United, come here’,” he added.

“City are ready to pull the plug but I still think come the 31st of January there is a good chance he will be here (at City).”

Express Sport understand Manchester City are willing to walk away from the deal if Arsenal do not lower their price.

And Ogden reiterates City’s stance, claiming they will not be duped into paying over the odds for Sanchez.

“We’re hearing that City will potentially walk away from the deal if things don’t change,” he said.

“Unless Arsenal drop their asking price and the Sanchez camp lower their requirements.

“It’s all a bit of a game at this stage with two weeks of the window to go and there’s a bit of bluff and double bluff.

“It seems as though City will stand aside and even risk him going to Man United, unless there’s a change.

“I think City believe that Sanchez wants to play for Pep Guardiola, he’s played for them before, so it’s certainly in City’s favour.

“But, he doesn’t cut a happy figure at Arsenal does he, he looks like he’s unhappy there and wants to get out.”
