Winds of Winter: Will NEW George RR Martin show Nightflyers DELAY GoT Book 6 and 7?

A Dance With Dragons was released almost seven years ago.

Some fans despair that the author will ever complee his beloved saga, A Song Of Ice And Fire.

Although Martin keeps eager readers regularly updated with his progress (and sometimes lack thereof) he is also busy working on other novels, and not just the Game of Thrones spin-off, Fire and Blood.

The popular author also regularly attends conventions and is attached to an adaptation of Nnedi Okorafor’s Who Fears Death for HBO. But now another major TV production has just been announced…

The specialist channel SYFY has just confirmed that it is moving ahead with Nightflyers, based on the famous short novel Martin wrote back in 1980.

It will be a major production with Netflix co-producing and holding the broadcast and streaming rights outside the US.

The show will be headlined by actress Gretchen Moll, whose star is back in the ascendant with the enormous critical and commercial success of her 2017 directorial debut Lady Bird.

The TV adaptation of Nightflyers will be written by Jeff Buhler (Jacob’s Ladder). Robert Jaffe, the writer of the 1987 film adaptation (which featured Brit TV star Micahel Praed) will produce, alongside Martin himself.

This prestige project will be overseen by Daniel Cerone, who already has accalimed shows like The Blacklist, The Mentalist, and Dexter under his belt.

One thing Martin can’t do is write any of the episodes, since he is still locked into an exclusive deal with HBO, with Game of Thrones ongoing and the various spin-offs yet to start production.

However, now that another of his iconic novels is about to be made into a TV show, there is a legitimate concern that he will, once again, be distracted from finishing The Winds of Winter.

The notoriously slow writer has been leaving ever-longer gaps between each book. Winds of Winter is still assumed to be coming some time this year, but if the release pattern continues, Book 7, A Hope of Spring, won’t arrive until at least 2026.
