This week George Clarke‘s programme on Channel 4 featured a “young couple who have put everything into putting a home on water”.
The couple, kitchen fitter Sam, 30 and his partner Adele, had bought a waterlogged house boat to make into a home – with a deadline of five weeks.
The benefit of the house boat, a restored Narrow Boat, was said to be that it was mortgage free.
Sam spoke of the unique challenges associated with renovating the property.
He said: “Nothing can be fixed to the walls or sides.
“There’s a lot of water down there, and the window frames are leaking.”
The plan was to install a cloakroom and toilet at the front of the boat.
In the middle, beds would be fitted doubling up as storage, with a kitchenette on one side, and cooker on the other.
The end of the boat would host a sofa and a wood burner to keep it heated.
The project proved to be a huge success, surprising even George with how good it looked.
“She floats! And she looks beautiful,” said owner Sam of the project.
The sideboard in the middle of the boat folded out to become a double bed, while the en-suite shower boasted a stained glass window.
The boat had wooden flooring and a spacious living room complete with soft furnishings.
Twitter users prayed the couple’s project, with one writing: “Already loving the Dudley lad converting the canal barge on @MrGeorgeClarke s #amazingspaces and it’s not even started yet.”
Another wrote: “Love watching @MrGeorgeClarke #Amazingspaces but always make me disappointed I don’t have my own cool shed / boat etc!”
George Clarke was told to “man up” recently after he reacted in a certain way to rain on his programme.
One Twitter user wrote: “Man up! lol! thought you were more manly than that hahaha!”.
